The Sexy Knitter’s Club on Ravelry seems to
be in synch with the latest fashions—apparently, lace is appearing everywhere in the designer previews for Spring,
2010! Several fashion reports are describing sheer, “lingerie” effects everywhere
in spring looks, as well as lace made of leather and even lace leggings. Petals in dresses, shoes, and tops and sheer fabrics also abound!
To quote from Nana’s article on bluefly:

“Lace has been taken out of
the attic, shaken out, and infused with cool in the spring '10 shows. In
London, Caroline
Charles and Jasper Conran were among the
designers who used the sometimes treacly
fabric to create lush, luxe, and hipster looks. In
Milan, Marni's spring 2010 also featured a cool
not-your-Grandma's lace tunic dress..”
The red hipster dress Nana is
referring to is this one:

As I mentioned in my last post, lace that is knitted in a saturated, vibrant color, such as the red dress above, has a more contemporary look. If you plan to knit in white, you might consider a geometrical pattern unless you are deliberately trying for an old-fashioned style. Here is the 2010 fashion take on the white lace tunic:
The fun part about these Spring 2010 looks is that the old fashioned fabric, lace, is being combined with a modern style to create a striking contrast. I am excited that designers are having fun with lace at last! It is certainly one of my favorite textures.
Here are my favorite European lace knitting patterns that match this season’s long, lean looks:
